Populosoft is looking for a Junior QA Engineer in Sofia who enjoys working with AI and wants to grow. You'll test software for our clients, including a US software product company: owning regression and release smoke testing, writing bug reports developers can act on straight away, and growing into test automation and new AI skills, with a senior QA lead reviewing your work from day one.
Apply nowAbout the role
Populosoft EOOD is a Bulgarian software and quality assurance company. We build and run our own products, including mathsolver.eu and textrunway.com, and we test software for client companies.
As a Junior QA Engineer, you'll work on QA for our clients, including a US software product company. You'll report to Populosoft's QA Lead, Rohit Singh, founder of Populosoft and a former Senior Member of Technical Staff at VMware/Broadcom.
Hours and the type of engagement depend on the client project, and we agree them with you before you begin. Start date: as soon as possible.
Location and hours
- Based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The work is mostly remote, with in-person sessions with the QA Lead in Sofia when needed.
- Company address: 31 Alexandar Malinov Boulevard, 1729 Sofia, Bulgaria.
- Central European working hours. The exact schedule is agreed after the screening call.
- You must be legally able to work in Bulgaria. Bulgarian is not required.
What you'll do
- Own regression and release smoke testing.
- Write and maintain test cases.
- Retest bug fixes, verify them and add triage notes.
- Run exploratory testing of new features from test charters.
- Write clear, complete bug reports that developers can act on without back-and-forth.
- Contribute to the test automation suite and CI (Playwright) as you grow.
- Use AI tools to test faster and smarter, and help us adopt new AI-driven ways of working.
What we're looking for
- Genuine enthusiasm for AI: you enjoy working with powerful technologies like AI, and you're eager to keep learning new AI skills as they evolve.
- AI literacy: you already use AI tools in your daily work, and you're critical of their output.
- Ambition to grow: we want people who can expand into bigger roles over time.
- A degree or background in Computer Science, or hands-on QA/testing experience.
- Strong written English. All work and reporting is in English.
- Attention to detail, and the curiosity to try to break things.
Nice to have
- ISTQB Foundation Level.
- Any exposure to Playwright, Selenium or API testing (Postman).
- Familiarity with Jira or a similar issue tracker.
- Hands-on projects with AI tools or APIs (personal projects count).
What we offer
- Direct mentorship from a senior QA lead. Your work is reviewed, so you improve fast.
- Room to learn and apply new AI skills. We build AI-powered products of our own.
- A clear path from manual testing into test automation, and into bigger roles as you grow.
- A small team and real responsibility from week one.
How we hire
- Application. Fill in the form below. We read every application.
- Screening call. A short video call about you, the role and the schedule. We share the pay range with you before or on this call.
- Practical exercise. A small, realistic testing task. It's an exercise, not unpaid work on a real product.
- Final interview. This may include people from the client team.
Once you join, you get two weeks of guided ramp-up on regression and smoke testing.
Strong candidates who aren't selected for this role can choose to join our talent pool, so we can contact them about future QA roles. You can opt in on the form below.
